Three Proofreading Tricks You Should Try Before You Publish
When you create Web pages, there's a good chance you'll miss typos or other errors no matter how carefully you proofread. While you might be anxious to publish your site for the world to see, sometimes you need to slow down and concentrate on what you've written. Expert proofreaders have a few tips they use to help them see what they might have missed:
  • Print your page. Text on a printed page is easier to read than on screen. It's more readable and it's easier to spot errors.
  • Take a break. When you stare at text for too long, your eyes tend to glaze over and you see things as you imagine rather than as they actually are. Put aside your text and clear your mind. Start again when your eyes are fresh a few hours later (or even over night).
  • Ask for help. Having a friend or coworker read what you've written is one of the best ways to ensure your text is error free. A new reader will often find mistakes that you overlooked or  ask questions about anything that might be obvious to you but confusing to someone else.

      This Month with Webon
Here's what's new with the Webon site builder this month:
  • PayPal Button Maker -- If you have a PayPal account, it has never been easier to use the PayPal "Pay Anywhere" button. Drag the add-on on to your page, set the configuration options such as product name and price, and then click Publish. Visitors to your site will be able to buy items through PayPal!
  • Poke the Penguin -- Poke is the Gamesville mascot. If you poke him too many times you're liable to get blown up...or worse!.
  • Gamesville Poker -- Put this fun little doodad on your site to amuse your visitors.

    Webon Tip
When optimizing your site for search engines, don't overlook your photos and graphics, Use alt text--short for alternative text--to describe the content of the images you place on your site. Here's why:
  • Alt-text descriptions help search engines find images when people limit their searches to images.
  • If the image doesn't load, its alt-text description will appear in its place.
  • Mobile users may not be able to see your images when browsing your site on their handhelds.

Typically, you type an image's description into an image tag's alt attribute in HTML. In Webon, once you place an image onto your page, mouse over the image and click the Edit Options link that will appear at the top of the image. In the following window that opens, you'll see spaces provided to enter alt text and a title for your image. Enter text that clearly describes your image's content. Click Save when you're done.
