Here's to a More Secure New Year

In recent weeks, several major corporations including McDonald's and Walgreen have been the target of hackers who have stolen thousands of usernames and passwords and posted them online. Tripod has not been breached but to be safe, starting next week, we're going to require all our users to update their passwords to make them harder to crack. You can change your password at any time or wait until you see the password screen below when you log in:



Resolved, a New and Improved Website

While you're busy compiling your list of New Year's resolutions, don't forget your website. Give it the once over and see what you can do to make it even better in 2011. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

Change your style -- There are about 140 style templates for you to choose from for your website. You can switch styles at any time with a single click. Click Styles on the top menu and pick out a new look for 2011.

What's New with Webon

We've been on a tear this month, releasing new templates at the rate of about one per day. There are 140 templates in the library as of this week and we expect to hit 150 before the year ends.

When optimizing your site for search engines, don't overlook your photos and graphics, Use alt text--short for alternative text--to describe the content of the images you place on your site. Here's why:

-- Alt-text descriptions help search engines find images when people limit their searches to images.

-- If the image doesn't load, its alt-text description will appear in its place.

-- Mobile users may not be able to see your images when browsing your site on their handhelds.

In Webon, once you place an image onto your page, mouse over the image and click the Edit Options link that will appear at the top of the image. In the next window, you'll see spaces to enter alt text and a title for your image. Enter text that clearly describes your image's content. Click Save when you're done.
